Inclement Weather Policy

(January 2025)

Monday – Friday:

• The Sackville Heights Community Centre will be closed when the Halifax Regional Centre for Education closes all schools, or if the Millwood/Sackville family of schools are closed.
• If there are delayed openings or early dismissals by the Halifax Regional Centre for Education, the Centre will follow the same schedule.

Group Responsibility:

• It is the responsibility of each group using the Centre to inform their membership about any cancellations due to inclement weather.
• Notices will be posted on the Sackville Heights Community Centre Facebook page and updated on our phone voicemail.

Weekends:

• Decisions regarding closures, delayed openings, or early closures on weekends will be based on HRM Recreation Centre cancellations.
• Delayed openings and early closures may also depend on road condition reports from the RCMP or Halifax Police along with snow removal at the Centre.

Morning Programs:

• Notices will be available by 8:00 am.

Afternoon Programs:

• Notices will be available by 11:00 am.

Evening Programs:

• Notices will be available by 3:00 pm.

How to check for closures on weekends:

• Call the Centre and listen to the voicemail update 902-869-4764 or check our Facebook page.
• Call HRM 311 Municipal Services and Information to inquire about Halifax Recreation Centre closures.

Important Note:

• If the Centre is closed due to inclement weather, the building will be closed to all, including staff, volunteers, and all groups. No access will be allowed during this time.
